As a lecturer and researcher I come across lots that I’d like to reflect on and share. We’ll see where it goes but there are four main themes I’m planning to focus on, which reflect my research and teaching interests:
The relationship between the Bible and mission (sometimes called ‘missional hermeneutics’) – how do we read the Bible through the lens of God’s mission and how does this shape our participation in God’s mission?
Children-at-risk in the Bible and contemporary society – how do children (especially vulnerable children) feature in the Bible and how can this inform the church in our engagement with and on behalf of children-at-risk today?
Psalms and Wisdom Literature – I’m an Old Testament scholar by training and work a lot on Psalms and the Wisdom books of Proverbs, Job, and Ecclesiastes. I’m particularly interested in exploring readings of these texts by sisters and brothers from across the global church.
Learning and teaching – I’ve been teaching in Higher Education for around 15 years, particularly in institutions training people for cross-cultural ministry. I’ve picked up a few insights along the way, which I hope will help both students and their teachers.
Each week I’ll share some thoughts on these and other themes, framing them under:
Something read
I’ll draw your attention to something I’ve read, listened to or watched that has made me think.
Something written
I’ll point to something I’ve written or recorded that will give you a window into my research and teaching.
Learning and teaching
I’ll share something from my experience in Higher Education to encourage and equip you in your studies or (if you are a teacher) your teaching and supervision
I’ll then finish with a quote of the week to chew over.
